Chris Chafe is president of GrowthSquared LLC, a company he founded with labor leader Andy Stern in 2011 to encourage sustainable, good job creation. GrowthSquared works with innovative companies and investment firms to strengthen business development execution and achieve financing goals through value adding partnerships. At GrowthSquared, Chris is responsible for all aspects of the firm’s operations and oversees implementation of its strategies to create jobs and value for over a dozen client companies and investment firms. GrowthSquared uses its unique relational arbitrage across the private and public sector to build partnerships that deliver enhanced service delivery, regulatory and legislative alliances, workforce development assistance, and financing and sales channel support.
Chris is a 20-year veteran of the international labor movement, serving as an organizer, political and legislative director and Chief of Staff at ACTWU, UNITE and UNITE HERE. Until May 2010, he was the Executive Director of Change to Win (CTW) at a time when that federation represented seven unions and over 6 million American workers.
Chris also served as a senior advisor to the John Edwards for President Campaign from 2007-2008. The Atlantic Monthly referred to Chris as “one of labor’s leading lights.” He has appeared on several national television networks and been quoted repeatedly in magazines and national and local newspapers as an expert on labor and political issues over the past decade.
Chris currently serves on the Board at Green City Force, named “the most innovative non-profit in New York City” by Mayor Bloomberg in May 2013.
Chris graduated with honors from Colgate University in 1991. He lives with his wife Katherine Kirsch and their two children outside the Washington, DC area.
